Writing Anchor Standard # 9

On behalf of the CCESA, this week’s NEAZRC Anchor Standard Challenge focuses on Writing Anchor Standard # 9- Draw evidence from literacy or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research. . In other words….”Back up stuff with evidence.”

We’ve reached the final part of the research writing trio of anchor standards. What makes Writing Anchor standard #9 unique? Anchor standard #9 is about using multiple texts to strengthen and support our own writing.  By using evidence in our writing, we are consciously collaborating with other writers. We are intentionally building on what others have written.

Over the last several months, the CCESA Office of Innovation and Development has highlighted Anchor Standard # 1, #2, #3, #4, #5. #6, 7, 8 and #10.   If you would like to review these 1 page newsletters and the 10 Reading Anchor Standards please visit our website.

What can you do? After examining the K-12 Anchor Standard of the week…  Investigate what that standard means at your students’ grade level/content area.  Why is it important that your grade level/content area teach the standard?  What does the standard look like at the grade level below and above? What does this standard mean for my instructional and assessment practices?
